While he was involved in karting, Miguel began driving proper racing cars, entering several races of the F.1600 Spanish Championship, where he achieved fifth place. His good results, paired with a promising future were crucial for the Real Automóvil Club de Catalunya (RACC, the Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia) to include him in their young driver programme.2005 was the last year he combined karting and single-seaters, as he entered the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, as one of the drivers of the young driver programme (Programa de Joves Pilots) of the Circuit de Catalunya that was managed by the RACC, a racing programme that demanded absolute commitment from the drivers. In spite of that commitment, he was able to get the pole position at the Karting World Championship, but he didn’t finish in the final due to a broken engine..

The 2006 season was very intense, as Miguel competed in the F3 Spanish Championship, achieving 6 podium finishes and also his first victory in the race at the Circuit de Catalunya, in Barcelona. In that race he also debuted in the World Series by Renault, finishing a remarkable tenth in his third race.
